The Client: Leading National Charity

Age UK is driven by a bold vision: “a world where every older person feels included and valued”. They partnered with KSL Training to better equip their managers to lead with empathy and impact.

Hybrid working at Age UK brought new expectations around communication, leadership and connection. Line managers were navigating a fast-changing landscape – supporting dispersed teams, managing remotely, and leading through uncertainty. The People Development & Culture Team saw the need to equip them with practical tools and confidence to lead with empathy and impact.

As a small but ambitious team, they couldn’t do it alone. They needed more than off-the-shelf content – a partner to co-create human-centred, evidence-based learning tailored to their context and purpose.

KSL Training was chosen for our values-led approach, blended solution and strong client focus. The Empowering Management Essentials Virtual Programme has become a central pillar of how Age UK enable their managers to develop confidence, capability and further their unified people management capability:

  1. Discovery Meetings:  Our lead trainer and client relationship manager engaged with the People Development & Culture Team to understand the managers’ roles, challenges, and organisational culture.
  2. Empowering Managers Essentials Pilot:  2 cohorts of tailored virtual delivery of 4 x 3-hours Modular Line Management Skills Training.
  3. Leading Virtual Teams Training:  Series of 2-hour bite-size sessions on Leading Collaborative Virtual Teams, Managing Performance in Virtual & Hybrid Teams and Decision Making and Accountability in Virtual Teams.
  4. Empowering Managers Essentials Training:  12 cohorts of tailored virtual delivery of 4 x 3-hours Modular Line Management Skills Training.
  5. Additional Courses:  Delivered on a ‘needs’ basis, half and one day courses in Coaching, Communication Skills, Facilitation Skills, Managing Change, Presentation Skills and Train The Trainer.
  6. Embedding The Learning:  Development only truly happens when it is applied, so this is a shared commitment between Age UK and KSL. After each session, participants and their managers get coaching guides from KSL that provide space for reflection and practical prompts to help bring the learning into everyday work.

  • Increased confidence:  managers are more confident in navigating performance conversations, delegating effectively and responding to change.
  • Stronger engagement:  managers and their teams have stronger engagement with the performance and development cycles.
